Meet Your Physical Therapist & Run Coach

Hi! I am Dr. Bethany Brausen (Kozak) (she/her) and am passionate about treating runners, including those with pelvic floor conditions. I'm a former Division I track & cross country athlete at the University of South Dakota (USD), where I was part of 6x Summit League Champion Teams. I continue to run with local teams in the Twin Cities, MN.

I hold a BS and BA in Exercise Science and Spanish from USD, a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences, and am an Orthopedic Certified Specialist after completing my residency at MHealth Fairview. I also have specialty training in pelvic floor treatment from Herman & Wallace and run coaching certification through UESCA.

Having experienced overuse injuries as a runner, I founded Tempo PT & Running Performance to help others reduce injury risk and bridge the gap between rehab and performance. My individualized, goal-oriented approach emphasizes injury risk reduction through movement optimization, hands-on techniques, and effective loading. My aim is to help athletes reach not only the finish line but also future starting lines, healthy.

Outside of my practice, I enjoy running, spending time with my husband, family, and friends, hiking, traveling, live music, and being with community. As a member of Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa my goal is to support our Tribal Nations as well as to the land we run and live on.

Testimonials

  • From a smooth booking process to a long and thorough evaluation, it was a wonderful experience. I've been a runner for 15 (+) years and have been dealing with injuries on and off over the years. Bethany took time to go over my history and work with me on the problem areas. I felt like my concerns had time to be addressed and there was no rushing! The gait analysis was nice to see where some of my problems stem from. Overall, Bethany was easy to book with, spent quality time, and gave me a good plan moving forward!

  • It was easy to book with Bethany and she was great to work with. She listened to my concerns and spent quality time working with me to ensure that I understood the exercises and areas I need to strengthen. Overall, a great experience!

  • I can't thank you enough for your expertise in my recovery and your encouragement to get me back to running. While the running is still slow going - my tailbone is so much better and I was able to participate in the YWCA Women's Tri last weekend. My goal was to get to the start line, injury free; and because of all the great work you did to support me through this, I met my goal.

    Molly

  • Having Bethany create a personalized plan with her expertise and nuanced care to get me back to running has been a wonderful experience. She is flexible with her time and cognizant on goal setting and appropriately working up to meet those goals. Even when things don’t go as scheduled or planned, she was able to adjust my plan accordingly. If you have not been able to run or trying to get back to running, but held back my aches and pains from previous injury or issues, Bethany takes this into account and looks at a holistic picture.
